The Granddaddies of Gruss Aus ('Greetings From').

Most of the 'Gruss Aus' we see are linens, which places them squarely in 1930-1945.

This one (the legend 'Post Card', the UnDivided Back) dates from 1901-1907, which makes it my earliest Gruss Aus.

This is a similar item (1000 Greetins) from Irkutsk, Russia.

Nice card. My understanding is that this type of card is a specialty type to a lot of collectors. They are "Illustrated Letter Cards". In Canada, some of these ILC cards are patriotic because they had "Maple Leaves" in the designs.

Here is one from Tirol dated 1888 written in the Tirolean dialect.

Gruaß = Gruss

Greeting from the north coast of California..105.75 years ago complete with additional postage. Because of the glitter.

If the cds is on the card, and not on a clear wrapper, this does not satisfy.

The rule was that glittered postcards would travel under cover and at the letter rate.

While someone may have misunderstood the rule (known to happen), or implemented it poorly (known to happen), other possibilities include laziness (sender had only 2c letter-rate stamps at home) and philatelic contrivance (please hand-cancel and I will hand-deliver).
