One of my specialties in postcards is the cruise vessel "Noronic". My parents were on this ship a couple of times. It travelled the Great Lakes.

In September of 1949, I actually saw this ship on fire in Toronto Harbour. I was 6 years old at the time. Because of this, I have had a keen interest for this ship. I have come across pamphlets etc.

Here I am showing a postcard as mounted on one of my album pages showing the launching of this ship at Port Arthur, Ontario on June 2, 1913.

I hope you like the card.

I haven't read up on the ship too much, but from most references, the demise of the Noronic was preventable had they only had proper personnel on duty at the time and had they adhered to proper fire safety rules.

At least the disaster prompted implementation of stricter Fire Codes for such ships in the hope that no disaster of such a magnitude can happen again.

Here's a picture of the Memorial to those who died in the disaster:

Apparently, the fire had started in a linen closet and, when this happened, more than two thirds of the crew was out on shore leave in the city for some entertainment.

nl1947 - I have bought different items from scview & sons. They have a lot of great material.

TY Kirk

I have always been interested in history. In all of my albums, regardless of the topic, I always like to use historical background reference, and, images wherever possible.
