Robert

I assembled a bunch of these before I threw them into the charity shop heap. In essence, the ruler of Ajman made contracts with various agencies to produce stamps, which appeared between 1967 and 1972 in huge quantities. As their validity was, to put it politely, uncertain, they're among the unpriced issues listed in the Appendix after the main Ajman issues (in SG, at least). Manama is another in the same boat (or dhow).

Regards.

Geoff

Some time this past month someone posted a thread asking how to tell a CTO from a regular used stamp. You could have shown them this sheet. I think there is another name for this. Wallpaper?

These are neat if you collect military uniforms or soldiers though.

Having neat stamps is half the fun.

I have various multiples of these Ajman "stamps" from 30 years ago. I think they are referred to as "Dunes" issues. Worthless but nice to look at.

Before we all go off calling these issues "wallpaper" "dunes", etc. (I am guilty of this too), believe it or not, there is a strong market for some of these issues. Mostly a European/Middle Eastern market, but a strong market nonetheless. So strong, in fact, it is quite possible to pick up key items for a song on USA's ebay.com and resell them to folks overseas, for a large profit. That which was unpopular nearly always becomes popular at some point, and these Trucials are a good example of that. Before you toss them (CTO or not), I recommend that you do a little research on what you have and what they are selling for. Or, before you line your bird cage with them, just make sure they don't have some value to a specialist!

Well, the ideal reference is Michel's English language all-in-one catalog volume, but, absent that, you can search ebay (Middle East - United Arab Emirates - or collections/lots) and use the listings to help identify your particular issues. Please remember that I did not say they all have value. I said some of them do. John
