Question On 1902 Guatemala Stamp.

I have about 30 copies of the 1902 National Emblem, Scott#114. The problem is I have about 10 copies each of the center color being purple, another 10 being violet, and another 10 being clarenet. The catalog shows a listing of green and clarenet. But no listing for the others. Color errors, forgeries, any ideas?

Change of color due to soaking, exposure?

error in printing? different mix of color used in a particular batch?

Larry could see it on a used one or a washed one. But should have added all have OG.

Ok, we go to Guatemala 2 the stamps of Guatemala 1902 to 1971 ...the one cent waterlow ..there were 12 printings of the one cent..the last being ordered in 1916..early printings had centers in purple or reddish purple..there was also a deep reddish purple which is the least common of the 4 shades..later printings were in claret ! You aint gonna find this stuff in Scott..you have to read the books written by the fanatics....see I learned something today also..the deep reddish purple are the best..i will look for them in the APS circuit books !!

Speaking of circuit books - I STILL haven't gotten my first Guatemala shipment yet. It seems like I signed up six or eight months ago.

Do you think I should bug APS Phil, or should I have some of that patience everyone is telling me about?

When the postage rates increased to 2 centavos the overprinted stamps were the claret colored ones..point of info !

Many of the country's regular issues, produced in large quantities, are inexpensive, and, having been printed over long periods, lend themselves to specialized collections and research to record colour variations, paper and perforation varieties, and other details. The handsome and inexpensive 1902 Waterlow issue is a fine example of the line-engravers art, with guidelines, position marks, plate flaws and re-entries – and many values surcharged – where research and study remain possible even a full century later.

Swabbie I always have good luck talking to Bill Dixon or Tom Horn..there is no problem getting them on the phone during working hours...i did see in the American Philatelist sales division that they were requesting members to make and send in books of Guatemala due to high demand..could it be the influence of SCF members ????

The simple one is correct I do not know much about Guatemalan stamps..but I have met I.S.G.C. members at stamp shows like Washington 2006 who came from Norway,Great Britain,Switzerland and Central America who do know quite a bit.. and SPEND quite a bit..the knowledge is out there..if you have the time and means !!

This was just the information I needed. And of course it was not listed in Scott.
Phil, your example is perfect for the color variation between the purple and the deep purple and the other shades.
So the deep redish purple wins out for album mounting. Kind of nice to have the specialists clear that up.

And I thought Ecuador was a headache with all of the measuring of overprints.
