CP will issue a stamp and a souvenir sheet in honor of the 50th anniversary of the Canadian Flag. Most of the items can already be pre-ordered here: https://www.canadapost.ca/shop/stam...ecution=e1s1Of particular interest is the uncut press sheet (sold at face value, although it is a whopping CAD115) as it appears to be signed by the very Joan O'Malley - the woman who made the very first Canadian flag with her sewing machine. No information about how many of these signed press sheets will be made available, or if only a subset of these will be signed. More details to be announced closer to the release date (Feb15) I reckon. |

What a lousy design on the P stamp. Looks like the flag is squeezed into a small space. Instead of flying free and majestic in the wind it looks lumpy and wrinkled. Another bad Canada Post design. Where do they get these "designers" from? Fifty plus years ago when I was young and patriotic I really disliked the red ensign flag and was overjoyed when the Maple Leaf was introduced. And now after fifty years later this proud symbol isn't even exhibited properly. The Souvenir sheet is a bit better, but 5 bucks? You gotta be kidding. |

Just what we need, another $5. And yet another giant stamp like the recent hockey souvenir sheets. No doubt those that get used will be delivered damaged. |

At least the hockey SS where useful for the basic $2.50 international
rate.
I used them on Christmas mail to Europe and a couple of non
collectors actually commented on how nice they looked. |

Ugly or not...its still our flag guys...  i presume the first day cover has all the other flags they considered before picking the one we have now..? |

When this stamp came out in 1964 to lead off the provincial flowers and coaat of arms series, some said it was a trial balloon for the flag.  Three Maple Leaves. One for the French. One for the English. And the last for the other immigrants or some said for the Indians (yes, the name First Nations was not used then) |

These are from CP website so people will understand what we're talking about. I'm sure some people will like the stamps, even think they are great designs. Like I said previously, the SS design is not bad but more could have been done with it. Just look at some of the American stamps and see what they do with their flag. To each his own.   |

This was the first time the Maple Leaf flag was shown on a stamp. June 30, 1965 Scott (Unitrade) 439 2 colour engraving.  So very simple but it meant so much back then. |

Here's some more scans from the Canada Post web site. The Uncut Press Sheet of 13 souvenir sheets  The Post Card  The Souvenir Sheet OFDC  But what is this Uncut Press Sheet? I can't read any of the inscriptions, but it does have a UPC. It doesn't seem to have a postage rate or appear as either the souvenir sheet or booklet images and is not described on the web site. It is only appended to the Uncut Press Sheet page.   |

It is actually the back of the souvenir sheet:  The funny thing about the press sheet is that there are 20 full-sized souvenir sheet and 3 souvenir sheet stamps without decorative border or the back illustration (as above). This seems really strange to squeeze them in. Why do something like that? |
