A Canada Post Philatelic employee just advised me that they do not have any information on any stamps in the "preorder" section of the web site. Like us, they have to wait until the "Details" magazine is issued to know Issuance Date, number issued, etc., etc., etc. |

I got my Details magazine today and it looks like the souvenir sheet will be made of "a specialized satin rayon fabric applied, using adhesives and silicones, to a paper backer". They are marketing it as "Canada Post's first fabric stamp".
I see a lot of potential for errors with this issue seeing as printing on fabric is not the same thing as printing on paper. |

Well, that should keep all us " flyspeckers" busy for a while... |

I'm not fully understanding the history here. Has Canada only had a "national" flag since 1965? Were there various flags before 1965, or was the flag redesigned in 1965 and, as a quote from Wert's post above states, with foreign symbols removed?
Thanks.

The Red Ensign flag was originally created in 1707 and was the flag of the British Merchant Marine. It featured the Union Jack and later incorporated the emblems from the provinces and became increasingly more visible throughout Canada. Eventually the shield containing the emblems was replaced by the Canadian Coat of Arms. Despite this popularity, the Union Jack was still the official flag, even though the Red Ensign was eventually approved to fly on Canadian government buildings and was highly visible. From 1957 until 1965, when the maple leaf flag took its place, the Red Ensign became the Canadian national flag.
The debate continues 50 years on.....lol |

Quote: DonSellos...Yes we did incorporate a new design in 1965..Before that we used the what I believe was called the "red ensign" design. as shown below. Thanks, Wert. I appreciate the chronological review of the differing designs prior to the Maple Leaf flag. Don |

Additional history and pictures at this Wikipedia link: Flag of Canada http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flag_of_Canada Quote: . . with foreign symbols removed? Not really foreign, although they look dissimilar to what is used today. Different monarchs and reigns and their countries invloved in the discovery (ahem) and developement of the then present day Canada. |

Shame on you litho that you talk abt ur country so low, What a lousy design on the P stamp. Looks like the flag is squeezed into a small space. Instead of flying free and majestic in the wind it looks lumpy and wrinkled. Another bad Canada Post design. Where do they get these "designers" from? Fifty plus years ago when I was young and patriotic I really disliked the red ensign flag and was overjoyed when the Maple Leaf was introduced. And now after fifty years later this proud symbol isn't even exhibited properly. The Souvenir sheet is a bit better, but 5 bucks? You gotta be kidding. |

Quote: Shame on you litho that you talk abt ur country so low, What are you talking about. My criticism is of the design and how the flag is shown on the stamp. Not about the flag itself. Learn how to read properly before you open your mouth. I'm surprised that they allow trolls on SCF. On most forums you would already be banned. |
