Found the following interesting variety on ebay. First up, the cancel one normally sees: And the variety: Wonder if they just ran out of "O"s or if there was a spelling challenged individual? |

James Ross Snowden's hand stamp cancel is common, it's nice to find one on document. This one also has a nice embossed seal of the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania. |

Love that red jewelers handstamp!
What does that bottom manuscript cancel read? "Cancel four [sic] stamps"? |

I think the bottom manuscript cancel is "cancel your stamps" -- maybe an admonishment from someone at the bank to the check writer, Elizabeth Strong, for not cancelling the stamp. Ms. Strong doesn't seem to be to familiar with the process, note that she wrote the denomination of the check on the check number line. |

It's been a while so I thought I'd throw in a new acquisition I picked up yesterday. |

Curious and creative doodle. Since it was done in a completely different ink from the cancel, who knows when it was done, i.e., contemporary or by a stamp collector after the fact. It would be interesting to see whether the heart fluoresces. |
