A nice, big scan that lets you easily see two useful spotting features when looking at Russian stamps. You probably already know, at the bottom of the stamp, to the right of the "7" look to see if the stamp is denominated in kopecks (Russia) or pennia (Finland). Higher value stamps would be ruble (Russia) or Markka (Finland) values.

Also, right below the eagle, in the bottom of the oval, your stamp has lightning bolts included with the posthorn device. When the catalogue talks about with/without lightning bolts, those are what they are referring to. (Michel calls these "mit Blitzen"...I think I saw them open for the Scorpions once.)

Scott Classic says this stamp is found in blue or light blue, and in two types. Based on the catalogue description, yours appears to be a Type 1. Three lines of shading in the top scroll to the left of the first letter, and four pearls at lower left between the leaves and the tablet.

Ok let's see if I have this right... It's a Russian, 7 Kopek, Type 1, "Blue". Does that add up? Thanks for looking at it Cjd.
