Hi !

I need your advise. Because I mist time, i'm now a part time collector but today i'm going to post office to post some letter. I talk with the women and she tell me that it was a beautifull stamps on the next issue on February 15 and she tell that I can see it... I say ok... I say wow it's definitivle the most beautifull stamps that I ever see from canada

http://www.canadapost.ca/shop/stamp...s1&LOCALE=en

She say that I don't have a lot but if I want I can buy them right now... i'm very surprised but I buy it immediatly !

I know that i'm not supposed to have this stamps on my possession right now but I have...

My question are, do you think that it's a good idea to make cancell them before that day of issue ? Do you think that it can be increase the value ?

Thanks !

Yes, if you wait until after the official first day of sale, you won't be able to prove yours are any different from all the others

The only way to document your early purchase is to use the stamps on mail and try to get clear cancels on the stamps. Then collect/keep the entire cover with the stamp and date.

Put some on attractive covers or post cards and have them hand cancelled at a post office and handed back. Do not send through the mails and they may get bent and bruised. What you are describing is not unheard of - as all post offices receive stock before day of issue and I have seen / heard of similar availabilities.

They shouldn't be selling the flag stamps prior to the release date.

Hi !

Thanks for your comment, I'm just little bite afraid of the reaction at post office if I go to cancel this stamps before the date of issue.

Thanks !

Ask if you can cancel it yourself. I do that at four post offices I send stuff through to make sure items get cancelled (many don't these days) and that the cancelling is well done.

I'm with canadianphilatelist.
You are asking the postmistress to break the rules.
The rules make buying stamps philatelically fair.
The result is a false rarity.

ccool, do not stress over this. It is very common for stamps to be available to individuals before the day of issue. With all the deals that Canada Post cuts with corporations to issue special stamp souvenirs, covers, etc., before the day of issue, it is normal for specific people to have access to them before the official first day of issue. I have personally had a couple of releases weeks before the OFD. While it my be interesting to get a few cancelled just for fun, these do not amount to much value because they are not very rare, extremely philatelic in nature, and fairly easy to fake given the crazy array of cancels now available.

On the other hand, I would not worry that your post office will object to cancelling these stamps for you. It is my experience that they generally do not know or care about such matters.

That is a reflection that many of the "postal outlet" people have little understanding of the Canada Post Act and regulations, are essentially clerks selling stamps one day, and perfume, soap or grocery the next day. The real Postmistress and postmaster are an almost instinct breed.

CCOOL : Don't be afraid, RCMP will not send snipers for using stamps before official date of issue
