I buy 90% of my stamps on Delcampe. Like any other venue, your success depends on price/what you are selling. If you have common material, you will most likely be wasting your time.

A great place for a seller to have an on line stamp collection.

I have completed about 500 transactions on Delcampe all as a buyer. This would be compared with about 1,600 on bidstart and a bit over 3,000 on ebay. The main reason I shop on Delcampe is for variety. I can find items in my areas of interest (World Wide MNH definitives) on Delcampe that I cannot find elsewhere. This is especially true for European countries and their colonies.

Most of the sellers on Delcampe are in Europe, with a few in the US and in Asia. For me, buying on Delcampe is not all rainbows and unicorns as I have experienced many challenges with sellers on Delcampe. The quality of material and the number of flaws in the stamps is consistently below the standards seen on ebay and bidstart. I routinely receive stamps with disturbed gum, spots, and all sorts of flaws that are not described or visible in the scans. Unfortunately, this problem seems to occur mainly with sellers in Europe. Many sellers also do not accept paypal due to paypal holding sellers accountable for issues around quality and lost shipments. These same sellers usually only accept Skrill (Moneybookers) which I find to be a pain in the a** to use and which offers no protection to buyers.

All that said, I have found some great stamps on Delcampe. I also think WW collectors who know about Delcampe do shop there, but it is not as popular a venue for stamps as either ebay or bidstart.

Seconded.

I suppose that Delcampe might be useful depending on what or where you collect, but for U.S. revenues it is less than useless. 90% of what is listed there in that category is either fake, misidentified, has undisclosed faults, or is horribly overpriced.

I think I've made two purchases there in 10 years.

I use to sell on Delcampe and at first it did very well. But then changes started to happen...

Delcampe started charging sellers a new flat fee for each item sold - 12 to 18 cents per item depending on the level of subscription a seller has. It was basically a retroactive listing fee. It was "designed" by Delcampe to get rid of low priced items or items that didn't sell. That was their logic. Instead it punished those who did sell and the horde of unselling garbage and over the top priced items stayed behind.

Also a number of sellers would end their listings and relist their material as "new". That would bury the listings of other sellers. Delcampe supposedly put the brakes on that, but who knows. I found out the only real way to regular sell on Delcampe is that you have to be constantly listing new material to be seen. The auction format doesn't get as much attention as ebay either.

In the end, I pulled my Delcampe listings and list them on ebay whenever they give me free listings. The sell through rates on ebay are far superior. I've had stuff on Delcampe nobody would give me a $1 for would sell on ebay for $20. It's all in the size of the market and nobody beats ebay.

About 2 years ago I decided to give Delcampe a try. I listed 20 items using both fixed price and auction formats. My auctions all started at 99c. I got 1 bid and sold 1 item for 99c, this was a MNH Madagascar Airmail stamp that I was selling on ebay for $17-22. That was the end of Delcampe for me.

In the last few years I made 4 different purchases from Delcampe, 3 of which did not end successfully. Two of them I got a message saying the item had been sold or could not be located. One, I never got the item or a response from the seller. One was a very satisfactory transaction. I hope others are having better results.

Funny how we all have different experiences. I purchased around 100 lots from Delcampe in the past year (all non-US stamps) and have not had a single problem.

So ebay is still the best place to sell & buy stamps & covers, although high seller fees they have protection for buyers and more customers for sellers. Don't waste your time on other sites.

It is also about how much listing you can do. Having listing on 2 or more site would create a lot of unpleasant issues for me.

Stamping season started for me Feb 3rd and I still have 500 items prepped for listing that I just have not got the time as yet to list.

But I have had a computer crash twice on two listing days and yesterday our island lost all internet contact for over two hours in prime listing time for me.Then there is ebay's listing tools that are not working to top it off.

My point is listing on one site being ebay is enough of an issue for me.I just can not bring myself to do all that work on a site that does not work sales wise.

On one site that I think was bid start a seller had 23,000 listings. That is not a selling store it is a on line stamp collection.

Hi KGV Concentrating on one site is the best idea two sites to much work & it gets complicating. 23,000 listings that's nuts I would hate to be managing that amount of items at once.

I think some collectors/buyers find Delcampe not as user friendly as some other sites.
For buyers, the ebay format is super simple and Bidstart almost as simple.
