It also comes down to the trust factor when you are about to enter into doing deal for a buyer & the seller.

I only sold a handful of things on Delcampe. The only things that went quickly and that I got a good price for were a few better Chinese stamps. If it's a good Chinese stamp, buyers will find it almost anywhere.

I have bought much more than I ever sold.

"About 2 years ago I decided to give Delcampe a try. I listed 20 items using both fixed price and auction formats. My auctions all started at 99c. I got 1 bid and sold 1 item for 99c, this was a MNH Madagascar Airmail stamp that I was selling on ebay for $17-22. That was the end of Delcampe for me."

It is important that sellers understand the general mindset of Delcampe compared to ebay. On ebay there are lots of auction-freaks desperate for a bargain. Sellers can (pretty) safely put an item up at a very low start and expect it to rise to its market value amongst a hail of last minute sniping.

Generally speaking, those of us who use Delcampe are looking to find useful and interesting material for our collection in a relaxed manner. Sellers usually start at what they think the item is worth, rather than a 'Hey, look at me!' price. Consequently any competitive bidding at all is uncommon, and frenzied last-minute bidding almost unknown.

Sellers opt to use auction rather than Buy Now just to protect themselves in case they have missed something important, but the auction reserve and Buy Now prices are usually about the same level.

Very true, but there are ways to bargain. If an item has been listed long enough and there is only one of that item available from the seller, you can make an offer below the asking price. You can also group items together for a group offer to the seller. Of course, not every seller accepts lower offers and some will just ignore you.

For a period of time (60 days??), lower offers are blocked by Delcampe on newly listed items.

Does bidstart support one geographic region more than another? I see that Delcampe is more heavily Euro activity.
And even the European album makers tend more toward Michel cataloging reference than toward Scott.

dcaraz1949 it's not a problem at all , I purchase a lot of Canadian stamps from Canadians seller on Delcampe. I found the sellers there more friendly than on ebay.
