The check is interesting if for no other reason than the amount of $3297.00. In 1869 that was a most considerable sum. In fact, one inflation calculator suggests it is the equivalent of $57,842.11 in today's dollars.
According to this article, the First National Bank of Tarrytown lasted only a relatively short time, having gone into receivership in 1878:
