Couldn't figure out a good subject line. I have a few stamps with full gum that were in a stock book and apparently some humidity caused the black on the page to come off onto the stamp (hello Florida). Is there a way to remove the black without ruining the gum/stamp? I attached an example. Searched the threads to no avail and I don't trust the net.

By the looks of it, the gum is already disturbed/damaged and the value of the stamps are diminished regardless of what new efforts might be made toward removing the black "gunk".

In my opinion, since it has not affected the appearance of the face of the stamps, the strip of stamps are best left alone.

I would agree with wt1. The sweated gum picked up the paper fibers from a black stock page, so it is there to stay. If the condition weren't so pronounced, a brave (or foolhardy) person might try some scraping with a surgical scalpel under a binocular microscope. This particular item is best left alone, unless you want to remove the gum, which seems a little radical to me.
