Robert

I think it may be more complicated - isn't it always?

The Jan 1858 issue has a watermark (the numerals 1, 2 or 3). Unlike the later issues, it is orange and dark blue. P 14 1/2, 15.
The Oct 1858 issue has no wmk, and is on wove paper. P12 1/2
The June 1865 issue has no wmk, is on wove paper and is P14 1/2 x 15. There's also a printing on very thick paper.
The 1866-75 issue has wmk of wavy lines. It comes on horizontally laid paper with P14 1/2 x 15. It also comes on vertically laid paper.

With that, the design changes slightly, and you can breathe a sigh of relief.

My kopeck's worth.

Geoff

Hello Robert,

why not Scott #17 or Scott #24, which are also perf. 14.5? Please show us a back scan on top of a black background.

I agree with jogil on the paper, and it fits nicely with the year of the postmark.
