Hi guys...please look at these pictures and tell me if this is in fact a Russia Scott #3 (which is a perf 14.5) that I have and not a Scott #9 (which is a perf 12.5) Thanks, Robert
I think it may be more complicated - isn't it always?
The Jan 1858 issue has a watermark (the numerals 1, 2 or 3). Unlike the later issues, it is orange and dark blue. P 14 1/2, 15. The Oct 1858 issue has no wmk, and is on wove paper. P12 1/2 The June 1865 issue has no wmk, is on wove paper and is P14 1/2 x 15. There's also a printing on very thick paper. The 1866-75 issue has wmk of wavy lines. It comes on horizontally laid paper with P14 1/2 x 15. It also comes on vertically laid paper.
With that, the design changes slightly, and you can breathe a sigh of relief.
