I recently won on ebay some multiples of this, one of my favorite designs. Can anyone tell me about these? Thanks!

My old Van Dam revenue stamp catalogue lists this as #QR5, part of the Quebec 1871 series of beaver registration stamps. Beyond that, I cannot help you. I would be really interested to know what other forum members have to say about these. What are they used to register?

The other odd thing is (and I probably would not have noticed it on a single stamp): the perfs are crooked.

I believe the 2c version of this is quite scarce.

In the 2009 edition of the Canadian Revenue Stamp Catalogue from E. S. J. Van Dam , it is # QR4 with a USED VALUE of 0.30 each stamp (7.20 total). If it was a mint sheet, it will be $30.00 EACH stamps for a total of (24*30.00)=$720.00. It is a REGISTRATION STAMP from Lower Canada (1870 beaver series). Nice sheet!!

Jacklac, unless Van Dam has changed his numbering scheme, the original stamp pictured in this post is QR5.

3Dadeo, the 2 cent value is QR4 in my catalogue and it is indeed much more scarce than most of the others in this set. Some of the watermarked copies are also quite scarce or at least valuable.

jamesw, do you know if this was only used on deeds or could it be used for registering other documents?
