Scott Classic 1840-1940 catalogue warns that 13 1/2 x 14 perforation Mayotte Navigation and Commerce stamps (1892-1907) are counterfeits of the genuine 14 x 13 1/2.
I have several 14 x 14 from this series. Can anyone with access to more specialized catalogues of French colonies tell me whether these are also counterfeits, as I assume they must be?
If you can by chance throw up an image, the cornucopia (?) and hands are usually dead giveaways. (I only say this because I left my Yvert at the office, and can't look at it 'til Monday.)
Can't post a picture or scan at the moment but thanks for the tip about what portion of the image to look at. I can see commonalities between the three 14x14s in the cornucopia and the hand holding it that differ from the stamps that measure 14 x 13 1/2, so I'm sure the three are fakes. They are also the highest value among the lot of 9. I'll wait until you or someone else can provide more details. But I'm assuming they are fakes (one is putatively Scott no. 20, cv $150.00, certainly a fake).
