Let's see. My old catalog (waiting on new one) shows D&T to be Derry & Toms, London with a pattern number of 4730.03A.
DCo/SLo has a number of 0960.01, but no ID as of whenever they printed the old cat.

That's all I can do for you...

Sorry for bringing back up this old topic, but my question fit's perfectly in it.

Does anyone know, what's the system behind the numbers of the official GB perfin catalog? I noticed, that single letters include the number of holes, but what about the other ones with two lines, etc.

Just to show what I mean, here's a screenshot of one B page with numbers 70..., 80..., 90 ..., 100 ... What is the system behind that?

It's not described in the introduction by the way, they just say the numbering refers to an old catalog "The Perfins of Great Britain: A Catalog-Album. Harvey Tilles, 1975"

Thanks for your help!

Guess:
Each number refers to the owner / company of the Perfin
the suffix refers to the variety of the pin punch.

The numbers possibly appended to the perfins years ago, by the authors, who wish to remain constant in later editions.

We probably need a larger sub set to confirm, but in your example
0070.01 is probably the 70th listed perfin design starting with B, and pin positions type #1

I suspect the system is similar to old computer programming, where each successive line of the programme is numbered in increments of 10. The idea is, should you need to add something, you csn - eg, enter a line 15 between line 10 and line 20, and then if you need to, line 18 after line 15, etc.

So the system appears to be,

70 = B.A. (variant 01; variant 02)
80 = B&A (variant 01)
90 = B over A (variant 01; variant 02)

... and so on. Plenty of space if a new one comes to light and needs adding in somewhere.

Rod and Ringo - thanks for the explanations ... yes, that makes sense - especially the "room for new ones".
Seems to be the same with all letters. So single letters are sorted by the number of holes, and everything else started many years ago with 10-20-30, and has been filled up with some numbers inbetween until today.
