ebay bucks. Make sure you're enrolled in the program. You get 2% back on every purchase. Every so often, like today and tomorrow, they run promotions where they give you 5x bucks back, or 10%. Next thing is to buy as many household goods as is practical through ebay on those bonus days. Things that are light but with a fairly significant cost are good, like razor blades, vitamins, and postage (yes, postage) are ideal because 1) they're usually cheaper on ebay to begin with and 2) shipping costs are minimal. You don't get ebay bucks on shipping costs, so buy the ones with the lowest shipping. All this of course assumes that you're still saving money over a different source - it would make no sense to pay 50% more to get 10% back.

Anyway, long story short, I've ended up with some really nice stamps I probably wouldn't have gotten otherwise, and I got them free or at a ridiculously low out of pocket cost. I now keep my watch list full of everyday items and buy them on those 10% days. And if you pay with Bill Me Later, you get an additional 1% for a total of 11% back. They're good days to stock up on postage if nothing else. It's like getting discount postage right from the USPS.

Artful, I have been getting these extra 5x ebay bucks offers just about every week. I wait for the offer before I buy anything. Of course, I will end up using those ebay bucks come April to buy more stamps . . . So far, I have $34 to spend.

I'm shooting for enough to get a new Scott Classic Specialized for free or at least a very steep discount. How ebay comes out ahead, I don't know, but I'm in the habit of looking up almost every non-food item we buy to see if they sell them on ebay, so I guess it's working as a marketing tool. I'm turning furnace filters into stamps on one of the next bonus days. I never looked for them on ebay before, but it turns out I can get them cheaper than my local store, even with shipping.

They never run bonus days until the last quarter's bucks expire, though. If you've ever noticed, you get ebay bucks when paying with ebay bucks. ebay's not dumb enough (I think) to give you another 10% back on free money, but they do still give you the 2% on it.

Well given what they charge for ebay and Paypal, they are making money even with a 5X ebay Buck promotion. 5X ebay bucks is 10%, which is the commission they charge the seller. They still make money on Paypal and the commission they charge on shipping, which doesn't qualify for ebay bucks. I use these promotions to buy huge amounts of postage, which I then sell to friends, making both 10% on the ebay bucks and 5% on the discounted postage.
