I have noticed recently (past month) that my laptop freezes up on ebay's stamp auction site. It is the only ebay category I ever use, and no other Internet site is giving me any problems (at least I haven't noticed). I have been using ebay for years, and this is a new problem that has "suddenly" shown up.

It doesn't happen every session, but when it does, it is usually when I click on an item for sale. It lets me go to that item but then freezes. I have to do an "end task" to get out, and that closes the browser forcing me to start over; quite annoying!

Has anyone else had this happen to them?

Related question: Are there any other stamp auction/sales sites that offer as large a variety of items/prices as ebay?

I have had this happen on ebay and other sites when the Shockwave Flash plug-in fails to activate for some reason, but I get a message alerting me to the fact.

On the related question, my response is no, unfortunately. No other site can compete with ebay for overall variety and volume, but at the same time it is clear that ebay does not attach a whole lot of value to its stamp niche.

There is Delcampe dot net, a Europen based site with avenues around the world, that has ordinary, Premium and Prestige auction listings.

I buy there off and on. Right now it is more economic for me in Canada to buy from Canada and Europe tahan the US which has a lot of my money down there.

Under stamps they are equal in listings to ebay. Some listings are not as well described as by bigger sellers but experienced sellers seem to have it all figured out.

Make sure they accept PayPal if you use thata as some accept only Skrill, a German based banking and credit card system which we also can sign up for.

The site seems to be arranged in a European ordering so may not be as friendly-seeming as ebay is but for selling you reach a larger audience sometimes than on ebay, and it costs less to list there. I haven't sold there myself as yet.

I've seen this freezing problem on three different computers with three different service providers.
So the problem is not the user... it's ebay!

I love bidstart.com. It's 99% buy-it-now but there are 5.5 million lots on offer at this moment. I also find a lot of bargains on bidstart and there are some very high volume dealers who can't been found elsewhere (for example Liberty Stamp Shop).

Zillions of stamps, mentioned in another thread not long ago, is all buy it now. It's pretty limited at this point in time in terms of how many sellers sell there, and I don't recall ever finding a "bargain." But, I have found material there I could not find elsewhere. My favorite seller on ZOS is Martin Farber.

Bidstart is a great place to find low-cost singles that aren't usually listed on ebay because ebay's fees make it impractical for sellers to list them there. I try to find a seller that has several items I need so I can combine shipping. I rarely shop there for better items, however, as I can almost always find those on ebay.
