I recently picked up the two eagle issues for the Przedborz local city post in Poland run by Austrian military authorities during World War I. These are listed in Michel and Fischer.

I had previously bookmarked one of the best identifier sites I've ever seen, for any stamp, dedicated to the Przedborz locals, so I was anxious to take a look. The site is at:

http://www.prz.ginsburgs.org/index.html

I would include the spotting features here, but they are too detailed and minute to make it worth the effort. That site lets you identify the eight genuine types of the first issue, and at least five forgeries. I have a wrong dot on the left wing and a thick line running up from the eagle's crown, so I think mine is a Type 4 forgery.

Hats off to the developer of the i.d. guide because it is really well done.

Anyone else have Przedborz locals to show? (There are other designs; the eagle is just the first issue. If genuine, mine would be Michel 1 and 2.)

Thanks Cjd! Great site. All of my Przedborz locals are forgeries, as suspected.

Przedborz is a lot of fun. Completely philatelic, yet replete with varieties, types & forgeries. The Ginsburg site is wonderful, if a bit daunting to the average collector (as are the stamps)

Here's my quick guide to instantly tell whether you have a genuine or forged Mi 1 or 2, the characteristics are the same for both. This involves the left wing (looking at the stamp). Check out the left side of the bottom row of scales.

1) GENUINE if there is an oblong dot FIRMLY attached to the edge of the wing.
2) FORGERY if there is NO dot
3) FORGERY if there is a dot but it is NOT attached to the edge of the wing.

There are sub-types of the no-dot variety, & you should go to Ginsburg's site to determine which one you have.

Here's the illustrations showing 1 to 3, left to right.

Here's my copies showing 1 to 3, left to right.

A couple of my proofs of these stamps
