Here is a new one that I picked up, #53.

Left St Johns on Dec 24 (Christmas Eve) front partial cancel

Arrived St John NB on Dec 29 (Note the "CANADA" on back)

Enjoy

Nice cover tommy..Too bad it isn't a re-entry...But very nice issued in 1880...I think it is a 50b ( bright blue )..in NSSC catalogue.

Wert,

Thank you, I am thinking of you...nice to see the NSSC reference too.

I would like to think it is the bright blue version (50b NSSC or 55 in Scott/Unitrade) because I lack that one), but I believe this is 50 (NSSC) / 53 (Scott/Unitrade) because of the date of issue and the cancel.

This cover was clearly postmarked in 1884 well before the bright blue version was available around Dec 1894.

Tommy, I have found on one of my covers, a stamp placed 10 years after t was issued..Hmmmm..Still looks like a 50b...in my opinion.

Wert,

Love the socratic dialog. I may be confused, but unless one had a time machine, it would be impossible to mail a cover in 1884 with a stamp produced in 1894....

i do agree with you that it looks like the bright blue color and I do agree that sometimes stamps are placed many years after it was issued, but this cover is the opposite, I think. again : my cover is postmarked 1884 and the 50b you refer to was issued in 1894

make sense or do I have it backward?

I'd class it as the British-American Bank Note Co, Montreal printing of 1880, pale dull blue.

Great cover especially since it is addressed to my home town.
