Those are cut-outs from the 1940 Red Cross labels issued at the Centenary exhibition. This is what the original "stamps" looked like:

If they were purchased with that description then the seller should be reported.

If they cost more than 50c then the buyer was conned.

I repeat, disgraceful.

My messages yesterday were rather blunt and to the point so I should explain that this is my number one pet hate in philately and oft times brings out the anger in me.

I mentioned that I have complained to sellers recently and the result of that was that one of the sellers withdrew his item while the others, it appears, did not. ebay are not bothered of course.

For many years I have been 'advising' sellers or dealers the error of their ways and with some success. But the opposite is also true.

I once complained to seller who listed these at £100 [$155] and I was appalled. What followed was a huge argument, exchanges of angry emails [mostly from him] and ended up with a complaint against me to ebay !!
On the other side, I wrote to a top GB dealer who had these listed and incorrectly described and he withdrew the items immediately and sent me an apology. I explained to them that they should have known better [they obviously knew what the item was as they are selling Exhibition material] and that it could damage business.

If everyone started cutting parts of stamps out with scissors our world would be in a right old mess, no matter if they are from Cinderellas or postage stamps. There is enough on the market already and I implore everyone who sees this kind of practice to complain about it in the strongest possible terms [complain nicely at first in case the seller did not know !]. We should all be doing this to keep our hobby clean as it is a disgraceful practice.

I am proud that I do.

Thanks Cursus.

Here's one I have written to without reply. If anyone wants to help me in my quest to clean up our hobby, I will be delighted.

At $7.60 a pop, it does not take a mathematician to work out how much one can save by buying the sheets.

The seller [above link] has lots more available for sale which in my book is cheating BIG TIME !

All help appreciated.

A COMPARISON.

A set of sheets has just been sold for £27 [$41].
The scissor jobs in my post earlier were $7.60 a go. So for 10 scissor jobs that's $76 !

It just beggars belief !

You can buy 5 full sheets with 6 nice full labels in each sheet for almost half you can get for a cheating snip !

But it does not only apply to these. They are at it all over. The one I saw yesterday was a Penny Black 'proof' cut out by some blunt scissors from a GB Souvenir sheet from 1990 !

I repeat, if anyone sees this vile practice, or anything like it, please let the seller know.

This would no doubt be the famous "proof" with the otherwise-impossible S W check letters. RARE! indeed.

LONDONBUS 1 -----I have been posting all kinds of scissor jobs on this website for years ,I am sure a few people know how to link them to this page,I don't . My favorite one and the one that almost fooled the editor was the stamp catalog front cover page of Ethiopia.
