This is a great topic. As a self-proclaimed connoisseur of beautiful women's faces, I must say that stamp producers as a whole have done poorly at depicting beautiful women.
There are some exceptions, of course. Among the stamps in this thread whose images are still visible as I'm writing, well-depicted beautiful women include (in order of posting):
Audrey Hepburn (Canada, USA) Judy Garland (USA) Aldorino Kaiane (Gibraltar) Marilyn Monroe (Germany) Romy Schneider (Austria) |

Here is an image of a stamp designed after a detail (in mirror-image) from an 1805 oil-on-canvas portrait by Spanish Romantic artist Francisco Goya (1746-1828) of Doña Lobo Velasco Isabel de Porcel (c.1780-?), the second ("trophy?") wife of Antonio Porcel (who was 25 years older than she), printed by photogravure, and issued by Spain on March 24, 1958 as one of a set of ten stamps depicting Goya paintings for Stamp Day, Scott No. 871, plus an image of the original work of art. - nethryk |
