Postmarked 15 OCT 18 at EBOLONA, Cameroun, franked with French occupation stamps. There is a transit postmark on the back from Duala dated 19.10.18.
EBOLONA was the spelling used for the town in the first French postmark, later this was changed to EBOLOWA. This is now the capitol of the South Region of Cameroun.
W. C. Johnston was probably the Reverend William C. Johnston, a Presbyterian missionary. In a list of Presbyterian missionaries dated April 1, 1918, he is listed with postal address of "Kribi, Cameroun, via Bordeaux, W. Africa". Kribi was the nearest port to Ebolewo. Later lists do show him in Ebolewo. Ebolewo seems to have been an alternate spelling of Ebolona/Ebolowa.
Mr. D. H Day, Esq. was probably Dwight H. Day, Treasurer of the Presbyterian Board of Foreign Missions. The address 156 Fifth Avenue, NYC is that of the Presbyterian Building, where the Presbyterian Board of Foreign Missions had their offices.
