I am trying to Identify this stamp and it is driving me crazy. It appears to be a China stamp under japanese occupation of Meng Chiang(Inner Mongolia), but I don't see it anywhere. The stamp is overprinted and surcharged with the surcharge in red. Please help me ID this stamp. The original stamp is Scott China #317/A46. There is no watermark and the perforation is 14. First post! Thank you for helping!

I'm also having trouble identifying this stamp. It appears to be Scott #2N68/A57 with an extra red surcharge on top of the overprint for Meng Chiang. There is no watermark and the perforation is 14. |

They aren't listed in Scott. I didn't check the other catalogs or specialty websites.
But I can tell you right now that the "red" ink looks questionable to me. But I'm no expert in this area. |

Not listed in Chan, either. However, he includes the remark about these surcharges: 'Some stamps were unauthorized by the postal authorities to surcharge and were not officially issued by the post office. Therefore these surcharged stamps are not listed in this [Mengkiang] section.' |

Thank you for the replies. The first one looks like it would be Scott #2N128 if it actually existed. I will check out that link! Thank you very much. Hopefully someone else can come along and further identify these. The value seems like an important part of it. China seems near impossible at times. |

I never know if I have something very valuable on my hands with stamps like these or something very ordinary and most searches have come up empty. |

Indeed there are local surcharges. As I noted, you will have to go to the specialty catalogs/websites. Some are genuine, some are fake -- you'll need an expert/specialist opinion. |

DCStamps has already mentioned Panterra's thread. He also has posted the same info elsewhere as Scuba77.
Of the English language websites, you can also check/ask China Revenue Stamps (they have much more than just revenues listed, but not easy to navigate), Kelleher & Rogers, Dynasty Auctions, and of course the China Stamp Society. At this point, I think you will find trying to contact Panterra or the CSS faster than trying to keep searching. |

This is also a question too. Is it possible that they are Chinese 'bandit' markings? If so, they won't be listed in any of the standard catalogues either.
