By coincidence I have just been transferring information on GB perfins onto my own database... and the first two of yours could be
S&S = Shaw & Sons Ltd.,Fetter Lane,London EC (positive ID on a 1947 George VI 2d) or S&S = ? (on a Reading postmarked QV 1/- Jubilee issue.)
As you can see, knowing the stamp is important... for instance if Shaw and Sons were not in existence until, say 1940, then the Victorian stamp cannot refer to them... that is just an example as I have not researched the actual Shaw and Sons yet.
EU/DC = Exmouth Urban District Council on a 1959 QE2 3d Wilding is what I have just now but your perfin might depend on which stamp is involved.

Just wondering, is #4 O / EE or EE / O? Sometimes, the different patterns get shifted.

Stamps 2 and 4 are upside down...
Stamp 2 is EU/DC stamp 4 is EE/C and is The English Electric Company. |

Many of the stamp sheets were folded either vertically or horizontally to make several layers of stamps before doing the perforations. That is why you get some normal way up and some reversed if they were folded in one way and the normal way up and upside down if folded the other way. Sometimes the layers of stamps were so thick that some perforations did not go all the way thru and that causes "blind" perforations. |

Quote: Stamps 2 and 4 are upside down. Funny you say that scotzm...They are NOT upside down..All stamps were heads up on the scan...But thank you for identifying stamp 1 and 2 for me.. Quote: Just wondering, is #4 O / EE or EE / O? It is an "O" Bujutsu...Some perfin holes have not been punched all the way through. Robert |

The perfins are upside down as per my explanation of how the perfin perforations were made.

It's good to see so much interest in GB perfins in recent threads.
There are well over 20,000 British perfin patterns known so far but quite a few of these still need to be identified so it's still an area where new discoveries both of patterns and identifications can be made.

I've just checked my old catalogue and this is what I can see: S&S - I don't see this particular pattern listed although there are lots of other S&S perfins listed. EU/DC - this could be one of four Urban District Councils (Eastwood, Enfield, Esher or Exmouth). ESSO - Esso Petroleum Company EE/C - English Electric Company, Stafford HC - this could be one of many councils/corporations/companies. If the letters are 4mm high then it's probably Hull City. If they are 4.5mm high then you have a choice of at least seven. |

S.S/&Co not in my database yet as I am going slowly through around 30 pdf containing thousands of perfins with ID.
So far S S has been noted belonging to Shaw & Sons Ltd. (positive ID on a 1947 George VI 2d but none seen by me, so far, on a Victorian stamp)
S.S belongs to Simon Symons & Co and, in theory, could be one of theirs (many companies had varieties of perfin perforators as the dies wore and had to be replaced). This would be my best bet until confirmation. |
