I am surprised there was no mention here about the massive collection and accumulation of all types of unusal stuff going up for auction today in St Louis at the STAMP EXPO . I didn't want to mention it earlier because ,I plan to bid for some of it . Talking to the staff who are handling the viewing there wasn't much pre-bidding viewing of these huge lots .So I think I have a good chance on some of them .------I will find out in about six hours ,wish me luck because if I win any of them I'll have a lot of stuff to show here .

Finally made it home and had time to review about half of the material . Wife not happy about the extra stamps but she gave up trying to tell me to stop buying stamps .
First a little background ,James C. CZYL was a leading authority and researcher ,he was a noted expert with a amazing collection ,he lived 1947-2014. After his death his brother consigned some of his top quality material to a British stamp auction firm. The bulk of his collection and accumulation was consign to Regency Stamp Auctions in St. Louis . Regency broke the collection down to high price indivual lots with the bulk of the material going into 4 separate box lots {as most of you know ,a lot of this material has only a dollar or two in the resale market.}.
I went after the two largest lots ,after a hard fight I gave up on the smaller of the two bigger lots because the other bidder wanted the hundreds of Cinderella covers . But the biggest lot of two large boxes went home with me .

Two and half years later still have half of the material still left to research ,write up and mount . I have filled about 10 note book binders with mounted items . The stuff from the Czyl hoard is in no order and just sorting items into some kind of file folder country lots piles takes time .There are lots of gems buried in those boxes which slows me down .
This week I spend the whole week working on unlisted Spanish Guiana overprints ,lots of enjoyment but slow going .
I bet most of you will be reading about this project two years from now .

Yes , in one of the lots from the JAMES CZYL collection was a envelope full of parts of sheets from SPANISH GUINEA . Last week lay them out on my desk and noticed lots of overprint varieties. Here are a few pages that I quickly made up as I was going along . Lot of fun searching and putting this together . I will rewrite it once I am sure there are no more envelopes of this material .

Fascinating - thank you. Any sense of whether these were simply fakes for the philatelic market or engineered oddities done by favour?

GeoffHa ----I will be making a trip up to the APS Library to research your question . Since you asked the question I been looking around the internet without success .
Sorry didn't get to you sooner ,but will follow up .
Still spending a lot of time on my Cinderella collection and finding a lot of stuff in some of my storage boxes. In the past two months I have added two more full binders to my collection . This week going to the office supply store to buy a case of binders of a smaller size ,so I can make separate binders for the more popular countries .
This project is going to be another year before I am at the point to say I got a decent Cinderella collection .

Good luck! It's interesting that Gibbons notes that the authorities declared the overprints bogus. It might suggest that they were done by favour, and the postal authorities stopped it. But just a guess!
