Hi !

Someone can help me to identify these stamps ?

The 4 stamps on the upper row are A9, A10 or A11. After that i'm very confused

On the second row, the 2 first are A3. It's the series 1853-60 because they are imperforated. It's the Scott #13 ?

For the last one. It must be #3 because the the only one "black" ?

Thanks a lot !

You are pretty close already. The black one is one of the Scott #3s though it's difficult to tell paper color from the scan. The two green ones are Scott #13. All four of the blue ones can't be type I since they all are missing the significant gap between the center circle and the top tablet, so not A9. The lettering is the same size on all four, so all are either type II or III. Without a type A8 to compare the lettering size I can't tell which they are. See if you have any of those to compare with, and if not I'm sure someone else will chime in.

All four appear to be Type III (A11), with more robust letters that almost fill the space. They are also all "report II" according to Yvert et Tellier.

On Type II, the letters are very thin, and there is a more noticeable gap between them and the margins.

Hi !

Thanks for your comments. I know that classic stamps can be hard to classify. On the Scan the white of the first and last one look more white that the 2 in the middle, specially the first one. In the Scott catalogue, the A10 Type look more white that the 2 other, I don't know if it's a clue ?

Thanks !

The best advise I can give is not to use Scott for French stamps.
A second hand Maury or Yvert + Tellier catalogue will contain significantly more info on these early issues including various shades and paper.

It doesn't need to be a very recent one and I had a look on Amazon.ca as there are a few second hand for a few dollars.

I like Dalley for France, it seems to be more detailed than Y&T.

Dallay is now merged with Ceres and Maury and published under the Maury name. I agree that it is the more detailed.
