Perhaps a minor detail, but I believe accurate measuring should be done by aligning the left side with the 1st vertical line to make sure the horizontal measuring action is truly horizontal, not slightly oblique .
Wert, In order to get an accurate measurement the stamp should be placed on the merit gauge with the first perforation centered on the far left line of your gage it is the zero point of your gauge. The other lines fan out away from zero and when they all line up with the perforations to the right that is your true measurement. On all the examples above you are using the central lines of the gauge as a zero this will build an error into your measurements.
wert: How can I get a hold of a copy of the software? I like the perforation chart on page 55 of the Unitrade Specialized Canada Catalogue for the Small Queen stamps.
