Hi, I have 6 GPO 1 shilling booklets, George V1. They contain 4 at 1/2d, 4 at 1d and 4 at 1 1/2d. The panes in 5 booklets are in order but in the 6th booklet they start with the 1d, followed by the 1 1/2d then the 1/2d. Is this a common fault? I'm slowly sorting through my late fathers stamp collection so would appreciate any help.
Thanks - Caroline.

I'd suggest the 1951 George VI booklet with panes in the wrong order is worth in the order of 3 times a normal booklet. Normal can be obtained for around £25.

Thanks for your reply Scotzm. I have a inquisitive mind and wanted to know how this error happened, I've done some research and the panes were cut from sheets of stamps, not sure if machine or human error but assume somehow the sheets were laid out in the wrong order, so probably more booklets out there like this. I'm really enjoying learning about stamps and have now got myself a Stanley Gibbons book! Thanks again for your reply.

Is this "error" recognized in the Stanley Gibbons catalog? Is there any possibility that it is a booklet that was taken apart, and then put back together with the panes in the wrong order?

This is a listed variety in Gibbons Specialised. Booklet BD7 and the variety is "BD7 ab Panes in wrong order". Possible to fake I suppose but difficult as I think they were stitched together.

I would think a MUCH more valuable item would be missing or duplicated panes. Now that would be one to look for.

Being stitched it would be difficult to re-assemble AND re-do the stitching. Very occasionally some mis-stitched booklets were redone but fastened with staples so I'd see no problem in saying your booklets are all the genuine articles including the "panes in wrong order" booklet. They were available from slot machines so are very interesting and your six booklets are quite a "find" and worth a reasonable amount ...which is nice

Thanks Scotzm, didn't know they were available from slot machines! My Dad collected loads of booklets, I've had them for 18 years since he died and every so often I take them out, spend days looking at them and admire them all and then put them away again. Now I want to know more! I love it! If I had the time I would get totally hooked on stamps. Work is getting in the way :) x
