Thank you for all your patience with me as I work through these questions...

My mother had this catalogued as SC #41 (issued 1883). It is not a stamp, though. Very stiff, imperf, writing on the back, etc.

Still on the very steep learning curve, so my questions are:
1) Am I right that this is from a postcard / some kind of postal stationary?
2) Does it have any significance? (ie, is it worth keeping?)

Much appreciation for any information someone might be willing and able to share. :)

Yes, it's a cut out from a postal card. It doesn't have much monetary value, but I wouldn't throw it away.

Your mother probably knew that it was cut from a postcard but was using it just as a spacefiller.

Hieronymus -- I truly hope you're right. Going through this huge collection over the last year and a half, recataloguing and learning as I go, I have found myself "talking" to my mother numerous times. ("Seriously? Mom! That is NOT a coil stamp!") or ("Mom, why did you keep so many duplicates of this common and completely worthless stamp???"). It's brought us closer -- haha! :)

Battlestamps -- Thank you for the confirmation. You're probably right that I shouldn't throw it away. I've started a separate sub-collection I'm now calling "Odd, Unusual, Fakes, Forgeries, and Everything Else That Doesn't Fit". I'll probably add it there.

Some of what's ending up in that book does have some value, though, so if I'm going to keep it, I'll want to put a little bit more info with it. Do you know whether it was issued at the same time as the stamp it resembles (1883)? Is it catalogued somewhere so I can put a reference with it?
