But with my luck, it's only cataloged at 20% of the value of a right side up surcharge Oh well back to searching ...

I don't have a picture of it and I don't have a catalog number for it handy (or even much of a description), but boy did I get excited when I found an inverted surcharge on some Greek stamp from the 20's or 30's (or thereabouts). I think my heart even started beating faster, like I had a major find on my hands. I frantically paged through the catalog to see what treasure I had. I coundn't find it fast enough and when I did...I promptly saw that its value was about the same as for an upright surcharge, which in both cases was (if I remember correctly) less than 50 cents. It was then that I realized that not every invert is valuable. I'm sure there are many similar stamps out there like that. Unless it's invert that I know to be valuable, next time I'll wait until I identify it before I start getting excited.

Unfortunate for both of you. However interesting items! I have a few similar experiences, the 'hopefully valuable' varity often turns up being of not much value. I still allow myself getting excited when oddities are discovered, disregarding the catalogue value. The excitement itself is valuable!! Keep on looking

I had the same kind of excitement as TheArtfulHinger when I detected this one from Transvaal.

I looked it up immediately, sc 146a, turns out only a few times normal value. And it might even be a reprint as I am by no means any experienced on Transvaal. Still - the excitement in itself is cherished, and it makes a difference in the album.
