I'm looking for a more flexible way of sorting and storing my collection of Banknote fancy cancels. Since some are just stamps, and some are on piece or full covers, I need to use loose pages and a binder so I can intermix the types of material.
I know that the Lighthouse Vario pages work well for the covers, but I am not so sure about using the 7S pages with the off cover stamps, and my experience with that size is limited. When I need to relocate a large number of stamps in a page, I like to be able to hold open the gap of the acetate strip and not stretch it. I'm afraid of tearing or cutting a stamp if the strip is too snug when I put stuff in or out.
Does anyone have any experience with these pages, or thoughts on a better (and available) alternative?
Hagner pages aren't sealed at the ends, so you don't get that unpleasant sound of cracking emitted by Lighthouse pages - whether Vario, Grande or other sizes. But the strips can become detached from the backing - you need to handle them gently, especially if you're putting in thicker material.
The Hagner stock pages sound like they'd be perfect for you as they are not secured on the sides like the Vario pages are. So the whole strip lifts up as you are swapping things around.
I usually pick them up for 10 cents a piece at my stamp club meetings. One of the members brings a big box of them every meeting for people to pick through.
I'd be happy to send you a few if you want to check them out
Thanks guys. We are fortunate to have a local stamp shop not far away, and he sometimes has used stock sheets he sells at a discount. I raided his supply a year ago and picked out a few dozen sheets from various old makers (vis-o-grip Sweden, vis-o-grip England, Scott, no name, and wouldn't you know it, Hagner). His supply still hasn't recovered, and some of the names are gone today, so it looks like it will be Hagner at about a dollar a sheet. Thanks for the tips.
The Vario 7S pages are my standard for unmounted singles. The stamps do tend to slip around a bit in the sleeves unless placed in mounts. In my collection, the Vario pages are usually a temporary "holding" place until I complete sets or years, etc. after which the stamps are mounted. So the added cost of the mounts is not a big deal to me. I've thought that the Hagner pages might be better but I'm happy with the Varios.
