Not sure what to say. In the United States, the PO is slowing driving customers to use alternative means. It seems to be a trend. We are a small rural town.

If you mailed a letter to someone in the town or county, it use to go directly into the addressees mailbox or a route carrier delivered to neighboring town. No more. All mail now goes to the big city central postal service center about 90 miles away, where is it is sorted/counted/cancelled and then returned to our town PO.

Where we use to get same day mail delivery on in town mail, it now can take 3-10 days to deliver that same piece of mail.

We rarely use the USPS for mailing packages; mostly FedEx or UPS. We went to telling our customers we would invoice them by email or we would charge them $6 a year to send hard copy. Our mailings dropped from over 2,500 pieces per month to around 635 pieces. The local post office depends on volume to justify its labor force, so when they raise rates, the volume goes down and the number of postal clerks in the town PO goes down also. Vicious little cycle.

Before the dust settles when they increase mailing to two levels the sellers that uses the 2nd class mailing option that will be $1 are going to get a lot of very low star ratings for mailing time.

And yes I know the mailing feedback is how quick the seller get the mailing to the PO but that is not how the majority of buyers interpretes mailing time feedback unfortunately.

So mailing will have to be 1st class at $1.50 a go.

To keep top rated seller status the seller must have free mailing.....

The older stamps were printed on plant based paper so selling plants sort of fits in.

It is a no win situation when the mailing increase is so large. Like it is over 100% in one go on top of a 10c increase not so long back.

Not being an ebay seller, but a buyer only...I didn't appreciate the implications of the OP's original points. As a buyer, I rarely notice when the item was actually shipped (might just be me) nor when it was actually delivered unless never received or very very long delay.

We have really poor PO mail delivery service, so long delays are typically just blamed (expected) on the PO. What actually gets attention is FAST delivery...unexpected and appreciated, but that too accrues to the Post Service, not the seller. All sellers get 5 stars for delivery unless never received.

KGV xmas cards this year going to be $1 to send instead of 60 cents in OZ, an extra 40 cents per xmas cards with no extra service offered by the po

I bet international stamp $2.75 from Australia will rise above $3 in Oct. Anybody can confirm this?

There should be a protest about these continuous yearly price hikes by the post office!

If the price of stamps keeps going up they will eventually ruin the airmail letter system as it will become unaffordable to buy stamps for mail outs. I don't see how Oz post can justify a raise in the cost of stamps every year. Every time they raise the stamps it comes out of everyone's pocket, it especially hurts small business and ebay sellers who have to pay more to post items. Yes it hurts buyers on ebay to because they have to pay a higher postage rate for their items. I am also hearing a lot of horror stories about slow mail, taking a lot longer than it used to for parcels. It does not just seem to be isolated to Australia.

If Auspost left an normal letter the way it is and put a DL letter up to $1.50 and also increased the thickness of the letter to 40mm or 50mm etc they would be in the race.

Auspost has such a "Dead Head" approach to doing anything. Typical people with no idea in control. If ebay and other on line selling did not take place they would not have the jobs to stuff things up. They make out that Auspost was the ones that got profit into parcels. They so much have not that they buckle at their knees when ebay says jump. How high they scream!

Yes I am not impressed.........

I heard Oz post complain last year they only made 4 million dollars profit, the big Boss at Oz post is getting greedy. I think this price hike due in October is a bit over the top. You tell me why 70 cents local letter will then cost $1.50, what's changed to cause the price to go up double? Its just robbery.

Everyone in Oz please complain to your post office managers in writing about these upcoming increases, please spread the word to any people you know in Oz about this upcoming price hike by the PO. More people need to make a noise about this and tell them we are not happy. Why should we pay more for stamps?
