GeoffHa- Are you using any of the Schaubek hingeless albums and if so how do you like them? I have stayed away from those because of the split back mounts. If I want to move my postwar stuff into their albums I probably must adapt to their type of mount- otherwise I will be cutting mounts for ages! I always have problems with split back mounts protruding at the bottom but usually a dab of glue stick fixes that. Anyway, any input welcomed.

I don't, I think, have any pre-prepared Schaubek hingeless albums, so the problem hasn't arisen. Like you, I dislike split-back mounts. I'm afraid I cut my own for UM, or use hinges for anything else. I do like Schaubek - the binders have substantial capacity, and the modern pages are good quality (older pages, found in older albums, tend to be thinner and iften shiw signs if their age).

In case anyone is curious I just received a preprinted Schaubek Germany album I'd ordered via their web site. Order was placed 9-15 and on my doorstep 9-25. To the US from Germany- I think that is extremely good service. Everything packed well, no damage. The paper for the pages is of good card stock, only compliant may be the quality of the illustrations but most of those are going to be covered anyway. I also ordered some acetate protective sheets and stock pages and am happy with those. The gold stamped binder is very attractive and looks good.

So far I couldn't be happier. This is light years different from dealing with Lighthouse and they are in New Jersey.

I have a complete set of Hingeless Schaubek Germany.

They are OK but come with the Vinyl 6 ring albums and slip covers.

Pages are heavy and has good clear mounts but are split back.

They tend to get thick in the middle of the pages when you add stamps and stay thinner towards the edges once you add a lot of stamps. This is not uncommon as a lot of album manufactures put everything to the middle instead of filling pages.

I have a total of 17 albums and it is not current to 2014, as only goes to about 2007.

I bought a Schaubek Berlin hingeless album with the idea I'd use my experience with it having splitback mounts as a trial balloon. I wanted to see if I'd be able to get used to them as I've always despised them but don't want to take the time to cut a few thousand mounts to finish my collection of Modern postwar German material.

I've placed stamps in about a dozen ages and am very frustrated. None of them lie flat and I have had to resort to slightly moistening the bottom half to overcome that. Also it is a chore to get them centered in the mount, open top mounts are a snap to use.

I am keeping the album and will finish placing my material in it. I have concluded that cutting and attaching my own mounts to the spaces and inserting my stamps will be less time consuming than working with these things. Glad I didn't buy a bunch of these albums. Will finish out my set by buying 'regular' albums and cutting my own mounts. Just my preference..
