I scroll, and scroll, and scroll, and then look at the Active column on the right. :) |

My brain seems to prefer left-to-right so I look at New before Active.

I never get that far. The farthest I ever scroll down is to this forum. All the other forums I actively read are above it, in the US forums. I can see on what forums have updated or new topics, and never scroll down to those two lists at the bottom. |

No scrolling needed. Ctrl + End will take you straight to the bottom of any web page (assuming there isn't anything funky going on with frames, iframes, etc.).
But to the answer the question, I first check the Back of Book forum for new threads/posts, then straight to the bottom and the right (Active) column. |

I'm a little different. I usually go the main collecting forum and then look to see what has been posted in the covers, 1940 to modern, topical and then look at the active list on the right hand side. |

Tonight is the first time I ever used the columns. And I didn't even notice they were different -- I started at left and just assumed that the right column was a continuation of the same.

You mean the columns at the bottom of the page? I seldom bother with those; I just go right to the Forums of interest. |

Hi
I first scroll down to the bottom and look at the "View Last 100 New Topics" column.
I agree with Don. The old way with the bottom columns on the left of the main page was better than scrolling.

I know opinions are like noses, but ...
I'm begging you guys -- try the ACTIVE button at the top of the page!
It will show you every thread that has been updated since your last login AND it groups them by forum which means you spend much less time trying to figure out if you're in Canada or US Classics
If you try it for two days, you'll never go back

Hi KirkS
Tried the button, don't like it. I get "what's new" for all forums and have to weed out what I am interested in.
Rather scroll to the bottom and pick out what I wish to see. Then I look at the forums that I wish to see. I can see what is new in the forum.

Kirk, I don't know if you've given a heads up on this before, but I've never noticed the "active" button until now. I like it! It basically does what I have normally done when signing on to SCF, which was to scroll down the list of forums looking for those that had posts in the last day. I almost never think to scroll down to the columns at the very bottom. |

Good to hear, Rusty.
Obviously, everyone has a preference and is free to use the forum in the way it works best for him/her.
For me, the real advantage, and the reason I disagree with Jerry, is the fact the posts are grouped by forum. For example, at the bottom of the screen right now is an active topic referring to "Scott #15" Using the ACTIVE button at the top, I see instantly that it's a post by Wert in the Canada forum.
My 2¢ -- Kirk |
