Canada Stamp Album

I recently inherited a Canadian stamp album with quite a bit of it filled up.

I know nothing about stamps.

Before I start going through it, what stamps/errors should I be looking for? Like, what are general things I should keep an eye out for?

The older the stamp the better anything pre 1920s there are some valuable early ones like this



Look for smaller earlier stamps queens heads, admiral series or the famous beaver stamp

It would be good if you could upload a few scans for us so we can help you further. If its in order maybe the oldest ones come on the first few pages?

You might have a valuable collection but we won't know till we see scans, stamp collecting is just as interesting as coins. So maybe a good idea to expand the album you inherited. And collect other areas to like postal history.

Oh, there are quite a few and it would take quite a while to take a picture of all. Luckily they are in a labeled and illustrated album (didn't even notice until I opened it). I only have two pre-1920 stamps (I'll post pictures). If there are any questions on if I have any specific later ones, feel free to ask. I'm working on the full (very very long) list as we speak. :)

1897 Diamond Jubilee - One Cent



1897-98 Queen Victoria - Half Cent

Sorry, those two stamps don`t have much value. The yellow one is the nicer of the two stamps. Scott number is 51 - 1c Yellow Orange Jubillee 1897 Issue, sells for $5-$10 on ebay. The black one is Scott 66 - 1/2c Maple Leaf. Both are in quite nice condition, possibly the others are just as nice. Look for ones that have higher denominations like 50c or $1.

fnd1234: One approach would be to see if your public library has a recent copy of any of the stamp catalogs which include Canada; Unitrade or Scott are the most widely used in North America. If that proves not to be the case Scott sells an electronic version of their volume for Canada for $15 as opposed to around $45 for the paper version.

You can then make a list of what is in the collection by catalog number noting what the editors decided was the value at the time. Catalog valuations are NOT street prices but will give you an idea of the relative value.

If it turns out you have some potential high-value items you could choose to scan those and post them here.
