My grandfather passed away recently, leaving my mother in charge of everything he owned. He has a collection of stamps, and it seems to contain hundreds, maybe even thousands, all from around the world. However, he didn't keep them in any kind of order and they can be found everywhere in his home. So, us being people who are not in any way familiar with stamps, were wondering if there is anyway one can search/look up stamps online and see their value? Also, any advice on cataloging and keeping the stamps in good condition would be greatly appreciated.
You can go to your local library and they should have a reasonably recent Scotts worldwide Stamp Catalogue that will have individual stamp values. Realistically, though, most stamps sell for a fraction of the Scott's Catalogue values.
May I suggest that before trying to sell them, you spend some time sorting them by country, and then by year. Then place them in an album in that order. As you find more stamps around the house, you can add them, so please leave some spaces. Possibly a collection will give you much more pleasure than the money you can get for them. The option of selling always remains, but you can never get your grandfather's collection back
Samm, If there's a stamp club local to you, Try and get in contact with them. I'm sure someone there would be willing to look at your material and provide appropriate advice.
Hi I have also recently acquired stamps and I am sorting through the pile! Is it best to sell by country or by individual stamps? Thanks Good luck to us both! Elisa
