I don't usually post this sort of question, but can anyone tell me the Scott catalog value of Laos Nos. 352-354 (MNH)?

Rusty

If this is the 1981 6th National Day Festval set, my 2010 SG gives 45p/65p/95p. Others may have a more recent CV.

Thanks, Geoff. I'm really looking for the most current value possible because I'm afraid a friend may have paid way too much at a stamp show today. Like over $100 U.S. I saw a 2005 value similar to the one you posted, which is what inspired me to seek up-to-date information here.

The 2015 Scott catalog value for MNH is $255 italicized -- unchanged from 2014. The used price also remains at $1.20.

Gosh. Any explanation for the sharp upturn?

Your friend did good pricewise. The only set I could find for sale on the internet is one on Delcampe priced at 220 Euros.

I don't want to sound negative about this matter. But, I think that any collector who begins to spend money on that scale and above should have done their research about the price ahead of time OR at least ask the dealer to see a catalog to verify the price.

Glenn, generally, I can't disagree with you. But things happen. The bright side is that the dealer is nationally well-known and liked and attends most if not all major shows in the U.S. I know him personally and haven't the slightest doubt that he would have made a full refund without question if a mistake had been made. One of the reasons I posted the question and hoped to get a quick answer was that the show will still be running today, and my friend could have returned the stamp while the dealer was still in town.

In the past few years, Scott (and the other major worldwide catalogs) finally got around to adjusting the price to reflect reality.

This set marks the early period of the Cuba-based printings. Most are readily available mint -- but this set is one of the exceptions. Looks like few post offices in Laos received any supplies. Some were sent to the US and Canada, so there are probably a few old-time new issue dealers sitting on some. I don't know the print run, nor the reason for the limited distribution.

If you think the mint stamps (no gum as issued) are hard to get, try getting an FDC (they do exist) or a used set (genuine postal usage, not CTO).

The delcampe seller linked above is known for actively trying to buy this set in previous years.
