So why bother to collect different colours, perforations, types of paper, sizes, etc......

If you do not wish to specialize, be happy!

Galeoptix: I thought that is what I was saying. Personally I strive to collect one best example of each issue of Canadian postage stamps issued prior to 1970. That best example might be number <nnn> or <nnn>a but I don't care that much. But that's just me. I think it is great that others collect the many varieties and I love looking at them when they post scans but I'm just not into that at the moment.

Re: Ferrari vs. Maserati I sold both of mine to buy stamps.

Hi Galeoptix - my custom pages tend to be very short on words. After using the Steiner pages for years, I've taken his simple approach to using the minimal amount of words, and leaving more space for the stamps. Of course in this case, only a specialized collector would know the differences, or even care about the endless varieties found in Australian stamps.

pk-short,

"Why not explain what is the difference between plain paper, infused ink and Helecon???? And add that description to your sheet!

You are not collecting different versions of a stamp simply because crazy catalogues list them under separate (sub)numbers! If you do not understand what it is about [or you do not want to!] then just forget about it!

groetjes, Rein"

Well part of what I liked was the feeling of completing something--being able to say I have all the releases from a year. With the tagging it becomes much harder to do that. It stresses me out to think about how much work it is to track down several kinds of one stamp that looks the same. I love the stamps, but the "point" of the collection for me isn't just to have some stamps I like, but also to complete something and make progress at a goal.
