I finally found the thread that deals with viral and bacterial diseases. A stamp issued by Germany in 2010 shows a detailed drawing of a corona virus between the portrait of Friedrich Loeffler and an antique microscope and next to it the image of viruses as seen in an electron microscope. Loeffler founded an institute in 1910 dedicated to research on diseases of animals and the implications of transmission to humans. This field of research has become increasingly important in the age of HIV, swine flu, bird flu, crazy cow disease, ebola and of course the present crisis with COVID-19.

The sika virus is almost forgotten nowadays with the COVID-19 crisis taking its place. Sika was particularly dangerous to the developing fetus and affected many thousands of infants, particularly in Brazil.
