Can anyone locate these two:

Baos (or Bacs?)

Boos

Also is there an internet resource site for Hungarian towns? I have quite a few more to identify.

Thanks.

Bacs (Hungarian spelling) is a now a Serbian town Bac, but the Bacska region was part of the Kingdom until around 1918.

There is a German town of Boos in the Palatinate, but not sure thats the same thing. Note, that what is now Hungary is 1/3 of what it was at the time and a full list of towns would include parts of Czech and Slovakia, the Balkans, Transylvania, part of Ukraine, etc.

You could pay about $55 bucks to download the Hungarian Village Finder, which would get you the former Hungarian Empire.

For modern Hungary, Wikipedia has a list

This resource certainly won't be fast, but it is fascinating and informative.

P.S. It's Bács and Böös. Bács is in the southwest corner of Bács-Bodrog County. Böös can also be found as Boeos when the diacritics are spelled out. Gab#269;íkovo, in today's Slovakia, used to be called Böös.

Town is Gabcikovo (without diacritics). What I see in KGB's post with diacritics is "Gab#269;..."

I did finally find Böös (spelt Bös, now Gabcíkovo, Slovakia) on HungaryForStamps map link.

It is in Pozsony County, in Dunaszerdahelyi District. See the image below.

KGB posted the maps link and those are beautiful maps BTW. Gotta love those old maps. Very close to Pozsony (Pressburg) one time capital of Hungary and place where Habsburg rulers where crowned.

Interestingly (at least to me) this area, Nagy Csallóköz Sziget (or Grand Rye Island) is Europe's largest "island" as some would claim, lying between the Danube, the Rye (little Danube) and Vah (Danube tributary) rivers. A fairy realm in folklore.

My family's name on Mother's side was "Nagy" BTW (which has absolutely no bearing on this discussion).

Bee, nothing to be sorry for!

The question now is when did Böös become Bös? Inquiring minds want to know.

Hungary, I knew an Alexander Nagy some years ago. The quintessential gentleman.

I had an acquaintance years back named Nagy too. I also notice plenty of the towns have Nagy in the name. According to Google translate it means Great or Large. Is that correct, when it is used in a town name?

Nagy is pretty common surname.

Yes means large, big or great as in Nagyvarad, now called Oradea in Romania (was Oradea Mare)
