Every once in a while I'm looking through my small collection of covers and I come across the one shown below. It doesn't fit in with any of my collecting categories but I keep it. I found this a few years ago in an auction lot and I suppose it's worth a few $ on ebay but every time I see it I start to wonder about it. Is the dog a champion or just a pet, is this just a fancy homemade cover or is it possibly a mourning cover etc. I don't even know what this type of cover is called. Anyone else got any oddball covers like this, that don't fit in with your collection but you can't get rid of?

Ken,
I only have an opinion on the dog. I doubt it is a 'show' dog, it does not have a 'show' collar or lead shown in the photos. The dog also does not appear to have the high quality 'confirmation' of a show dog for this breed.
It seems unusual that a harness like that would last six years but I guess it is possible if care was taken.

I concur the cover is a 'keeper'. I would throw it into the box with the hundreds of other covers I have which are destined to sit in the bottom of the closet forever!

The blue and red bars on the cover may interest those who collect air post covers with different forms of pre-printing. As you may know, in the early air post period, a number of different distinctive border markings were developed and later the familiar alternating blue and red "lozenge" pattern was the subject of a patent. There are collectors who seek examples of all the different blue and red pre-printed borders. So there's a reason to continue to keep it.

Several years ago I purchased a lot of covers that included many of these decoupaged type items. Here's an example of one:

The lot also had several of these atrocious covers, apparently put together with some sort of wallpaper

They fit into nothing I collect, but I just can't get rid of them.

Uh oh. Now you are going to have to start another collection - one of home-made and home decorated covers.
