I considering buying this stamp but I'm hesitating because of the color. Anyone know what the cause might be and a way to correct it? Terry

Hi Terry The stamp does look faded, but admittedly it's difficult for us to tell on our monitors, you know, different settings and all that. Is that an ebay image? It could also be a poor scan on the sellers part. Notice the fancy cancel is a tad faded looking too. I'd say if you have your doubts, don't by it. It's nicely centred, but does have some stubby perfs. There are plenty of these out there, if you have doubts. |

jamesw: Yeah, a bad scan would be the best outcome. If the bidding is light I may take it on as a clean up project.

You could ask for a scan of he back if you want to check that the paper is Ok or if there is any paper damage (foxing, soiling, aging)
I'm sure that the stamp comes in that shade. These lighter shades are also the ones that are sometimes perf 11 1/2 x 12. |

Well, I bought it and it is not nearly as muddy looking in person. I'm happy with the purchase and decided not to do anything about attempting to clean it.

Cjd: It still appears muddy in a scan on my monitor but that is probably the fault of the scanner I'm using.

Did you check the perfs ? Could be Perf 12 or perf 11 1/2 x 12. The light brownish violet shade is quite scarce !
I don't think it has a watermark based on the nice perfs, but if it did, it would be a good score. |

Is 'light brownish' in the Unitrade?
I actually like the drab! I don't think it's dirty..just an interesting rare shade :) How much was it? I would have bought it FOR the color. |
