You might want to perf check this stamp. It should be perf 10.

I like this stamp! (I'm a bit old-fashioned, however.) There is a quality about it that says artwork rather than simple design. For instance, I'm pretty sure that the "A" floats a bit higher than it might and that the "2" does also.

Welcome to the Forum greott71! Your stamp looks a little over inked, which would cause the letters to look too close to each other. Also the wavy line cancel can "mess up" our perception of objects and lettering.

There are some contemporary artists who make a life's work out of exploiting how our eyes can be fooled by lines and colors. Some of the paintings make you think you are seeing parts of them move!

Google 'line size illusions' to see some examples of how eyes can be fooled.

I agree with Bookbndrbob. The stamp is a tad overinked and thus formed a "bridge" between the 'S' and the 'A'. A very common occurance on these stamps, which were printed in the millions. I looked at some of my strips of this stamp and indeed, the '0' if 20 looks like it is not in line with the 2. Draw a line under it and it looks OK.
One word of advice. These stamps have been forged quite a bit and the revcollector's advice to check the perfs is quite good!

That's what I was also thinking - this is a poorly printed example, it could be overinked or maybe a postal forgery.
