I don't know about the stamps, but even if they are only worth 1 cent please don't do anything to the cover. That is a very interesting use of postage. It is also a first flight cover and as such very collectible.
It's value I have no idea about!

Peter

While not particularly rare, it's a great first flight cover. I'd estimate the value at $30-$50 depending on cachet.

Here's one on offer on ebay now for $40:

The stamps appear to be Hong Kong, King George V series This information may be helpful to identify your stamp. King Edward has a bald head on top, lack of beard, lack of eye brows, his hair looks like it is divided on side and mustache is downwards, earlobe looks different too. He doesnot look like this appearance on your stamp. So your stamp is not made in 1903 or in 1904-11 King Edward V11 Series.
The 1912-14 is the beginning of the King George V series. with chalky paper Scott 121 $2 black and red value ranged $60.00 used. This does not show watermark. King GeorgeV has a much thicker mustache and with a loop and ears and facial appearance looks like your stamp in the photos.
Stamps of 1912-14 REDRAWN, has the same facial features as your stamp. so it is best to look at the upper left case of the writing. These stamps which has the vertical strike is absent from the character in the far upper left (type 11 marking), instead of a short vertical stroke crosses the bottom of the Chinese character in the upper left corner of writing (type 1 marking). That is way to tell it is redrawn including has watermark 4. In Scott's they have a picture of type 2 and type 1, that can help show the difference with the Chinese writing. Types of 1912-14 issue. 1921-37 has ordinary for the lower denominations and higher ones known with chalky paper. there is a Scott 144 on chalky paper $2 black and red is worth in range of $6.50 for used.

After King George V is King George V1, (1938-48) his side appearance on the stamp is on the right side instead of left like before him that ruled and much younger appearance too.

This SFO-HKG route was later known as PanAm 842/843. The flight left San Francisco at 7pm in order to arrive at Hong Kong at 7am, which made a lot of sense except that you flew entirely in the dark and, even with 1970s navigation technology, the idea that the pilot was going to actually find Hawaii & Guam (the intermediate stops) seemed unlikely. Cheers,
