Hi This pair has a precancel which I don't manage to identify. Can anyone help me? There is 3 rows and it seems to say PH on the top row. I don't know. Thanks for any help I can get.  |

Hi Andklun, and welcome to this forum. On my computer screen I can not tell a thing - the picture is awful fuzzy! Can you maybe re-scan this and post a somewhat larger scan?

Here is the first image enlarged to 200 percent and modified a bit from the original. Frankly, I don't know if I've made things better or worse!  Still, perhaps someone familiar with precancels will be able to at least guess what's here. |

Hard to tell what the city/state are. It might also be a roller (post) cancel or a fake. If it IS a precancel, I don't think it is a Bureau one. |

I'm guessing the state (?) is made up of five letters. Most were abbreviations, right? |

Looks fake to me. Looks like an over inked rubber stamp was used. Precancel does not go across both stamps as if on continuous cancel and the bottom line appears to curl up on the left end. |

Good point, oldguy, but why would someone make a fake that can't be identified as anything at all? |

I cannot even make out any of the characters on this one.
And oldguy has makes a good point about it possibly being a faked application of a precancel.

Just a thought Andklun.
Have you tried using the colour channels of an paint program.
I use a program called EzImage and in the image manipulation
area I turn off the red, green or blue channel. It sometimes
helps me see the town and city more clearly.
If you can send me the image as bmp or jpg, I will give it a
go for you. |
