Hi, I would really appreciate any views (value) on a couple of stamp albums I am considering selling. The images are just quick snaps but I can provide higher resolution close-up's if necessary. Thanks for taking the time to look. Jay https://www.flickr.com/photos/plattws/

Your pic doesn't give me much info. As sdtom asked, we need more on the album, number of stamps, dates of the stamp pages (i.e. 1840-1940, or ???). You will likely get a better read on them be doing an ebay search for similar ones. Of course keep in mind that some folks put "junk albums" on there for big dollars.......... |

Sorry, I need to change the settings for you to be able to view the images. All 240 should be available shortly. Thanks |

They are Stanley Gibbons Ideal Albums 1840-1930's. There are a couple images of the albums at the end of page three. |

jay I couldn't find the pictures of the albums themselves. I'm assuming that they're Ideals covering foreign countries. Ideals often sell well - in fact, I keep my own basic foreign collection in them - but that assumes that there's a good range of material to interest collectors, and there doesn't seem to be much of great interest in these photographs. Worth doing a rough stamp count if you're putting them on ebay. Geoff |

The albums are sparsely filled which suggests the original owner didn't invest in the collection. When you see just a few stamps here and there and no concentrations of material, it's likely the collector added whatever they could find or were given by others, perhaps by soaking stamps from mail or from packets.
There are a couple of sets- Germany and Cameroon for example- but you'd expect to see many sets like these for the collection to have significant value. There does seem to be an interesting page of used GB which is likely a postmark study but I don't know enough about this area to e helpful as to value.
It's a great starter collection if you or a relative were interested in building on it. Best of luck! |

Ideals were (and are) quite expensive albums. They came in various forms - all world, foreign only etc - and contain spaces for all issues (not postage dues or officials, no perf varieties, but some watermark varieties) up to the time if publication. The production of new versions ended in 1936, when the flow of new issues had become too great. They were obviously often bought for young stamp collectors who, in most cases, wouldn't have had much chance of filling the spaces. In this case, the fuller sets that shermae notes are outside the timeframe of the album. The GB page looks to be from another album altogether. The albums may be worth more than the stamps on ebay. |

Thanks Geoff and shermae for your input. I'll have a look at past ebay sales and decide what to do with them. |

If I were selling them on ebay, I'd lead with the photos of the albums, plus a few sample pages, describe which of the Ideals they are (worldwide or foreign only), give a rough total for the stamps and probably sell the GB pages as a separate lot. I'd put them out there at a starting price of £19.99 or £24.99. |

If you are going to sell this on ebay, consider cross listing under both "World Wide Collections" and "Publications." The albums are in great shape for their age and may be of interest to some collectors. If I hadn't invested so much into my current set of albums, I'd love to use these to start my classic world wide collection! Paul |

Hello Try to sell at your stamp club. I your are not a member try anyway at any stamp club. Also look if there is a philatelic expo with dealers offering stamps in your area. Usually they don't buy at such event but you will get to know them. Or simply go to your local dealer to see his offer. From what I have seen there is not that much value in your stamps. Valuable collections are rare. So don't travel to much trying to sell. Waste of time and money. About ebay and other auction sites don't go there if you don't have the material to open a store. Again waste of time and maybe money. |
