DJ ...

What new material are they finding at this juncture? Or is additional pricing for UM, on cover, blocks etc?

Geoff

Hi DJCMHOH. My attempted e-mail to you failed for some reason but I am interested in your catalogue. Please e-mail me at ronv@knologydotnet. I'm really looking for one a little more recent but your 2010 is much better that what I have now, Thanks for your offer.

I'm working with a 2007 Classic catalogue. I'm a returning collector (but it has been years since I've collected).

I'm not too concerned with the values. I'm using the catalogue to organize my stamps.

My question is this: have there been significant changes in the last eight years to substance of the catalogue?

Second question: If one is not too concerned about the prices, how often should one update their classic catalogue?

JRockne, Scott generally makes a number of additions and improvements with each edition of the Classic Catalogue. I've tried to summarize these on my blog (http://globalstamps.blogspot.com/se...q=evolution).

Excellent. Exactly what I was looking for.

As a returning collector, I cannot say how much more fun collecting is with all the information on the internet!

I actually use the Scott Classic Catalogue to keep my inventory in. I used a colored highlighter and just mark the stamp I have as I'm putting it into my album. Then, I just carry the one catalogue with me when I go to a show. I purchased a 2011 one last year and plan on getting one that's a couple of years old every 5 years or so.

chris2015, so you have to go through the newly-acquired Classic catalogue and redo all your highlighting each time you update your Classic catalogue? Might not be too bad for a collection of a few thousand but once one is up to 10,000 or 20,000 or 30,000 . . . .

Or do you retain the highlighted older catalogue and keep adding highlighting to it while using the newly-acquired one for updated prices and information but not as a record of your collection?

Curious minds wish to know.

I do the same thing as Chris.

At this time, I have a 2011 with all the inventory markers from A-R, while my newer 2014 has S-Z. I only have to carry two books to stamp shows etc.

Life is too short to redo inventory.

When I get my 2017, I'll think of something.

I don't routinely highlight catalogues, but, when I do, I use 45-year-old SG Commonwealth and Europe and Colonies catalogues, augmented by a slightly later "rest-of-the-world". I can live without hghlighting any more modern stuff I have. I can also live without the alarming databases lauded elsewhere!

Highlighting is too much work Since I only collect used, a simple "x" next to the catalog # works for me. Inventory records of my country collections are very simply kept this way in SG country catalogs.

I did build an e-record of my Netherlands collection (complete with images) using Google spreadsheet, but now find it completely useless compared to the amount of time I invested in building it. I don't collect modern, so I don't anticipate having to update my catalogs anytime soon.

I keep my want list in a Google spreadsheet, that way all I ever have to bring with me is my phone.
