I recently sold a two volume set of the 1963 Scotts Catalogue (for both US and worldwide stamps). I sold it because I have a newer 6 volume set and figured I wouldn't need the old set.

Ha, its only been two weeks and I'm missing them already. My collection is thru 1960, and using the newer big volumes is - to me - sometimes a lot of trouble.

My question is, what was the last year the Scott's cataloges were one volume?

Thanks all!

A bit of googling and amazoning suggests to me that the last true single volume edition was about 1943. But at least through 1955, the two volumes (USA, US Possessions, British Commonwealth in one, the rest of the world in the other) were being manufactured and sold in a "combined edition"--so in terms of actual physical single-volume, at least to 1955--which is getting pretty close to your 1963 two-volumes.

I saw copies of these combined editions available on Amazon for not all that much money.

Edited for typo

1943 was indeed the year that Scott started a 2nd volume. However, the large single volume was still available that year.

In 1951, Scott tried a "simplified" single volume called "Scott's Popular stamp Catalogue". That didn't sell well and was discontinued after the 1952 edition.

I have a 1959 Scott 'Combined Edition" that includes volume's I and II at about 2200 pages not including ads and indexes. I at times prefer to use this than dragging down one of the 5 pound gorilla 2011 Scott volumes.
